I have a 2003 chevy silverado 1500 4X4 with the 5.3L V8. I had problems starting the vehicle so i changed the battery and it seemed to fix that, but after i changed the battery when i would go down the road the truck seemed to be fine but as soon as i would stop at a stop sign or light the truck would idle down so low it would die or come really close to dieing, i pulled the alternator and had it tested and it tested fine. What should i check? any tips at all would be very helpful. Thank you.

Some of that is normal. The computer has to relearn the idle strategy after the memory is cleared. You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum leaks and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC. After cleaning the throttle body, try disconnecting the battery to reset it again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Just a note: Memory savers can be well under $20. Always use one, disconnect any hood light, don't open a door while disconnecting a battery for any reason. The cheapo memory saver just goes in a live power port or cig lighter before you start - the use a 9v battery (common one) and vehicles will (if done right) save all presets, clock, and memory in computer but be fast with a battery swap as it's only using a 9v battery. Have one and so far no failures. Get the thing out as soon as battery is hooked up, T

pollard: If this is just "relearn" it will snap out of it on it's own. We don't know that right now but using memory savers as said saves a lot of grief especially on cars with tons of things inside like memory seats, multiple radio stations and the list goes on. I know of places that concentrate on new battery sales that don't use them! Even some if not most alarm systems will go nuts or radio not work with giving it a code - not nice to a customer! T

Burl - NO LINKS please and if you have a car issue please start your own thread. This is an entire different situation which is probably solved. Memory savers aren't going to help you now if you if you have a problem with your own vehicle, T Note: If you want to advertise here contact the webmaster......
