Trans fluid leak after engine rebuilt

I had the engine rebuilt the other week for my 2002 Ford escort. Two thousand bucks. A few days later I noticed Transmission fluid leaking in the driveway. I never had a fluid leak. Took it to shop and they said I needed a valve replaced to stop leak. They need to drop the axle (or something like that). I said "are you going to charge me?" He said it would be a couple hundred bucks. Got a warranty for engine job. I think they caused this. Should they be charging me?

Do you have a more specific description of what needs to be replaced? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

A valve or seal needs replaced. I'm going to call and talk to him again and get more specific info, then I'll post here again.

Yeah, he says it is a leaking transmission seal.

That's still not very descriptive. There are dozens of different seals in the transmission. The only way it could be associated with removing the engine is if the leak is either the main front pump seal or one of the axle seals. he could have damaged one of those removing the engine.

Well, they need to drop the front axle, if that helps at all. I think my best bet is to get it to a mechanic and have them take a look, and ask them if it could have been done during repairs. Again, I never had a fluid leak in the 6 years I have owned this car.
