Check engine light on? If so, what codes are being stored. Those had a lot of problems with vacuum leaks causing surging and stalling. Inspect the PCV hose grommet that plugs into the intake manifold. The oil from the PCV system makes the hose swell up and leak. They also redesigned the front valve cover on those. The oil would get into the intake manifold and swell up the orings and bolt grommets between the upper and lower intake resulting in vacuum leaks that cause what your having. If you do go ahead to replace the o rings, it's best to get the 2 kits that include the valve cover, PCV valve, and intake gaskets. You should also get injector o rings. The lower intake gaskets should be replaced too cause they deteriorate with expansion and contraction of the intake and heads. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

DS gave you some important info there but that problem usually shows up along with Po171 and PO174 codes which you didn't mention. You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum leaks and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
