Brrr it's gettin cold. my heater started working intermittantly. when it worked, all speeds worked. it hasn't come on for a long while. i put a new blower motor in (tested it first with a power supply) didn't help. i took out the resister bank and tested it, it's o.k. i visually checked the selector switch and it looks o.k. Any suggestions? Does a 97 Mazda protege have a heater relay and if so where is it? I appreciate any help. Thanks

Does the blower get voltage to the motor? If so it may lack a good ground. The resistor usually fails to high fan only and with no fan it should be power supply, switch, or ground, T

Thanks for your reply. i checked for voltage at the blower motor, nothing. i checked for voltage coming into the switch. no voltage there. i checked for voltage at what my best guess without a schematic at the fuse. the fuse is good and there is voltage there (if this is the right fuse). do you know if the power goes directly from the fuse to the switch or is it rerouted somewhere first? i was going to check for continuity from fuse to switch to make sure there wasn't a break in the wire. Does anyone know where i might get a schematic for 97 mazda protege? Thanks

No power at the switch - arggh! I don't have the diagram for this and it would help right now. Are all fuses good on both sides of them? You said you were unsure of the right fuse. Not sure but there might be a fusable link to the motor. Any wrinkled wire there? Is a relay listed for this? T
