2009 Buick Enclave

Hi folks, first time joining this board. Looking for help on my 2009 Buick Enclave CXL (AWD). We have had a ton of engine issues on this car, BTW. I don't recommend it to anyone. Last week had a transmission oil cooler line blow out and left my wife stranded. Towed the car home, I replaced the leaking line, drained the transmission and refilled with Valvoline Full Synthetic Dexron VI. The car will NOT budge. I can put the pedal to the floor and the engine revs but no go....The transmission had been shifting just fine before this happened. There is a permenant code stored...P0979 "Transmission pressure control solenoid C stuck open". In order to get to this solenoid, I have to take the side cover off the transmission, which is doable but wont be fun. I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations here? I don't want to go thru this and have it still not work. And I can't afford to have a service shop do this. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, Justin

Nope, nothing in any gear including reverse.

Hello, Ok, thanks. This trans is called a 6T75, 6 speed auto trans, with the tcm located inside of the transmission, The solenoid is only serviced as an assembly, which means you have to buy the tcm and have it programmed, but im not so sure that is your problem. Question, when you filled this trans how many quarts did you put in? How did the old fluid look? and smell?

Thanks for the info. I put in 6 quarts of fluid. That puts it at the full mark while running. At first I only put in about 5.3 which is what the book says, but I figure the cooler and other parts got emptied and maybe that is why it took a little more to get to full. The fluid that came out was brownish. From other boards I've been on I understand that is pretty normal for this transmission. We just turned 90,000 miles. The fluid in the trans did not smell burnt. There was lots of burnt fluid all under the car from hitting the exhaust. What else could it be? I was thinking if the pressure control solenoid was stuck open, then maybe it would not allow pressure to build hence it would not move. But I have to say I am not a transmission expert. I'm better with engines. One other thing...This started as a slow leak and while I was waiting for the trans line to come in...I had to drive the car. It stopped working completely when it ran low on fluid as the leak got a lot worse. I put a couple quarts in it and it ran fine again and we were trying to get home when it shut down again. At this point the leak was severe and we just towed it home. My point here is that when it is low on fluid in will stop working. But now I know I have enough fluid and no leaks and it wont budge.

This trans has about 5 pressure control solenoids, pretty much each clutch pack has its own pressure solenoid. The odd thing about this is, theres nothing on in common(whats on in drive is not on in reverse), the only thing i can think of is its possible something broke causing the no move condition, the reason why i think something broke is it happened all of a sudden. Both Drive 1 and Reverse use R1 circuit (2-6 clutch). Only 3rd,4th, 5th, and 6th is when the 2-6 clutch isn't applied. Line pressure test time. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

hello, Do you feel any engagement when you put it into drive or reverse? Is the fluid on the full mark or above the full mark. Gary

When I put it in gear, I don't really feel anything. When I give it gas, I can feel it trying to move...but it wont actually move. Almost like the brakes are on. Tonight I will take a look at the fluid level again. It is supposed to be at the full mark with engine running and fluid warm...but hard to get the fluid warm when its only 20-30 degrees in the garage and the thing won't move.

Ok, let me know, pretty much if the fluid level is at the full mark, that would tell me your pump is turning, it may pay to add alittle more to confirm the level is rising, make sure you read both sides of the stick, if one side reads lower go with that as your reading. gary

OK so I checked the fluid level again tonight. When shut off the fluid level is at the full mark. However while running it is slightly below the MIN mark. So it does need more fluid...I will have to get another quart tomorrow. Could being just a little below MIN be the reason it wouldn't work at all?

Can't think of how that reading means anything unless no change between OFF and engine ON. "Slightly Low" IDK, to me that like having a flat tire and saying it's only flat on the bottom so what's the problem T

Just being thorough. Wanted to see if there is any difference. I do know that on Saturday I had it to the full mark while running. There are no leaks and now it's about 2mm below the Min mark while running.

Still want Gary's comments but I'd fill it up to stay in normal range, warm engine at least on level surface checking both side of a dipstick as mentioned already. By rights a tad low or high shouldn't matter but you have a problem so it has to be ruled out, T

That was a good test. This fluid should be checked running and at normal operating temp, just to rule out low fluid, add til its alittle above the full mark. Gary

Ok I added 3/4 qt additional fluid and running, engine warmed up the level is a little above full. Still was not getting any response...until. I put it in manual shift and was going thru and trying each gear. If I hold the accelerated for a few seconds the transmission slips into gear and car will move. Works in every gear but reverse. Thoughts?

A few feet. Could not get it too far out of the garage since reverse does not work. I can get it outside and see how long it will move forward. Once I let go of the accelerator it goes back to how it was (ie, I have to then press the accelerator for a few seconds again before it moves again).

what im wondering is, is the transmission in failsafe mode, that means if the computer sees a problem depending what gear your in it will either default to 3rd or 5th gear, so if your in failsafe 5th gear this will take off very slow from a stop, but the car should move and gradually pick up speed. Reverse is another story,but im curious to know if this does move foward. Gary
