High Speed, Low Gear, High RPM = Damage?	Sign In

My automatic Honda Civic was accidentally driven at freeway speeds on the lowest gear. It was driven at 6000-7000 RPM (borderline red zone) for 10-15 minutes. Does this translate into damage to the engine or transmission? Thanks for any help!

Probably not if the temp did not get too high. Do you have any unusual problems now?

I would be really shocked if doing that didn't make the engine come apart but if it's not making any noises or smoking now, then it probably survived it.

It sure as hell isn't good for the car but Honda's are generally strong so they can handle occasional mistakes like the one you described. I wouldn't recommend ever doing it again though otherwise it could cause serious damage and even blow out the engine.
