Jeep Wrangler Drive Shaft gone Sign In

Look what had happed to our 2010 Jeep Jk drive shaft :

Would you say this is a result of a wrong 4WD shifting or wear and tear over time because of its age ?

Anyway If I get a new drive shaft would the silver piece have to be replaced too ?
...will it even separate from the part on the left that's rusty ?

The silver part is the transfer case and it definitely looks like you have some damage in there.

I'm sure Gary will be along eventually but I would get it to a trans shop ASAP for inspection.
