shifting problems Sign In

I have 1996 mazda 626 auto 4 cilinder, do not know engine size 140 k iles is not shifting to the 3rd gear also takes to long to shift to the 2nd gear any idea what can be the problem, oil is new and level, speedometer works good . apreciate any help.

Ok here is a test you can try. let me know the results.
start the car
put gear selector in L2
Drive
After taking off does the engine rev up with no power?

ok I tried that and it did the same as it was in drive position only go to 2nd gear after that I pull the trans off and desambled it if I was going to buy another one I figure will not make mutch deference and I found a kind of a belt boken then I look for the clotches they seem to be ok inspect to see how much metal recidues and was clean so mybe it was rebuil some time do not know how long ago , now I do not know if thats the only thing wrong with the trany I do not know what this belt does

It sounds like you are talking about a band? That could definitely cause some problems.......

One I knew guy could rebuild any trans in record time but couldn't spell transmission to save his life...........lmao
