The Arnage and Continental GT Diamond Series Fuse the Latest Technology with Craftsmanship and Tradition

February 2006 (Medialink) –
This year, Bentley Motors celebrates 60 years of production at its famous Crewe factory. Today, Crewe is a flourishing state of the art site mixing the latest technology with time-honoured craftsmanship and tradition. Bentley’s most popular models are the Continental GT & Continental Flying Spur. No Bentley models have either been as successful or enjoyed such international appeal as these two cars.

The first ever Crewe-built Bentley – the Mark VI - appeared in 1946 – as Crewe production shifted from Merlin aero engines to luxury cars. The Mark VI was then the best selling car ever to wear a Bentley badge. More than 5,000 were sold in five years – almost as many Bentleys as were made in the entire 20 year pre-war period.

Today, though the original buildings of the Crewe factory have been preserved, inside the clean, modern, light environment is virtually unrecognisable from the 1946 plant. Bentley currently employs a 3,900 strong workforce, an increase of around 70% since 1998. The modern factory features some of the highest technology seen in the motor industry.

Yet this technology is blended with traditional craftsmanship skills, as precious wood veneers are expertly transformed into wooden dashboards, door trims, consoles and cabinets. Leather is hand stitched, as the best hides are transformed into exquisite cabin trim.

This history and skill comes together in two special edition vehicles built to celebrate Crewe’s Diamond Jubilee.

The Arnage Diamond Series features diamond quartered wood marquetry as well as a host of exclusive exterior features. Only 60 Arnage Diamond Series cars will be built.

The Continental GT Diamond Series has a host of exclusive trim features and paint colours as well as new 20 inch, 14 spoke alloy wheels and boasts carbon ceramic brakes – a first for Bentley. Only 400 of these special cars will be built.
