Most people just renew their current auto insurance policy year after year and don't pay it any attention at all. The car insurance bill comes in, they write a check, and send the car insurance bill and payment right back out. They take their new car insurance policy card, put it in their wallet, and they are done. It doesn't seem to occur to these people that they have options where car insurance is concerned.
Don't think badly of people like this. I used to be one of them. The bill came in for my car insurance, and I paid it. I didn't think about what I could do to find cheaper car insurance, or how I could get a discount or two from my car insurance company. I thought they worked for me and did that kind of thing automatically. Ok, I was naive. I am not anymore. I have learned my lesson by paying more for my car insurance policy than I should have.
Here is what you need to do to find and compare cheap auto insurance policies. By cheap auto insurance I don't mean lousy auto insurance. I mean good auto insurance that doesn't cost a lot of money. There's quite a difference.
Anyone can go out and buy a cheap insurance policy (lousy cheap) and get a great rate. The problem is you will not have enough car insurance coverage to protect your self, your car, your family and your lifestyle.
We buy car insurance to prevent any financial problems in case of an auto accident. The first thing you want to make sure you have on your auto insurance policy is enough coverage. The more you own, the higher your coverage should be. Don't cheap out on necessary coverage when buying car insurance. Make sure to buy enough coverage to protect yourself.
Right now, off the top of your head, do you know the limits on your car insurance policy? Do you even know what type of coverage you have on your car insurance?
1. Liability coverage? You need it.
2. Collision coverage? Do you need it?
3. Comprehensive coverage? Do you need it?
Do you even know why you carry these types of coverage? Don't be insulted. This was something I took for granted for years, and though I knew the basic mechanics of an auto insurance policy, I did not know all the details that were and were not covered by it. I think I was a typical car insurance owner.
In that old world I used to think the car insurance company would take care of me. HA! My insurance company has no idea what I need or want from my policy. Only I am responsible for monitoring my auto insurance coverage and rates, and adjusting them as I see fit.
