my truck jumped time and after i replaced timing chain and put back together it wont start i used a power probe and found out i dont have any ground going to my coil and when i leave key on i have a hi pitch wining coming from my computer on firer wall. my truck is a 1994 dodge 1500 with 360 5.9L . can someone help with this problem and where i need to start looking for the ground problem to my coil. because i have learned that the same ground for my coil runs my injectors as well. thanks Ron

The ground for the coil is controlled by the PCM. A power probe isn't going to tell you if the PCM is triggering the ground circuit while your cranking the engine. And please please don't feed power down the coil negative circuit with your power probe unless you want to cook the driver in the PCM. The injectors and coil grounds are controlled separately from each other. You have any trouble codes stored in the PCM? Turn the ignition on-off-on-off-on and then count the flashes of the check engine light. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Can your scan tool do special functions like an ATM test? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Do you have an injector noid light? See if you have injector pulse while cranking the engine. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Take your test lamp and connect it to battery negative. Touch the probe to the orange wire on the injector's connector. Have someone crank the engine. Does the lamp come on? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Your missing cam or crank pulse to the ECM. The lamp coming on briefly when you first turn the ignition on means the ASD relay and computer are working. If the ECM doesn't see a crank or cam signal while cranking the engine, it will turn off the ASD relay which supplies power to the injectors and coil. I'd start by checking for a signal from the crank sensor. Your going to see 8 volts on the sensor power circuit instead of 5 volts as in the video. Grey/black wire= signal to computer (should toggle from low to high when bumping the starter as a flywheel window appears at the sensor.) Black/light blue wire= sensor ground (less than .1 volts while cranking) Orange wire = sensor power (8 volts with key on and cranking) Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

ok but with a ohms meter i show 5 volts going to that and 5 volts going to my cam sensor as well and with the power probe tester it shows me having good body grounds at all the body grounds under the hood including at the alternator thanks Ron

Unplug the crank sensor with your meter still connected to the side of the connector going back to the PCM. Do you have 8 volts with the ignition on at the orange wire? Make sure your meter connection is good. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

You have a power supply problem it seems. It's either being caused by something shorting out on the 8 volt power circuit, something goofy with the PCM, or power and ground issue to the PCM. Your going to have to go at the PCM connector. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

ya i hear u on checking twice and cutting once this is what i came up for readings pin 7 was from .13 for highest and right before coming back into house all i could get was .01 to 0.00 pin 9 has the 12 volts to it pins 11 & 12 both was at 0.00 pin 6 read .01 i know i have something crazy going because it went from being the timing to something eletrical which dont make no since to me but just hope we can figure it out so i can maybe fix it myself rather then take it to a shop thanks Ron

From your results obviously your missing your 5 volt and 8 volt sensor supplies. The PCM feed power is good and the grounds seems ok. I'd expect to see something on the ground beside 0.00 volt, but less than .5 volts Leave your meter connected to PIN 7 on the PCM. Unplug these things one at a time while watching that voltage, see if unplugging any of these things causes it to come back up. Also inspect your harness wiring around where you were working for damage. CAM sensor ( in distributor) CRANK sensor Vehicle speed sensor (on transmission where speedo cable screws in) MAP sensor TPS sensor Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
