Help Sign In

I start my car in the morning and it immediately dies. I start it again and before I can even try rev it up to keep it running it dies. I seem to hear a clicking sound when I turn the key off coming from under the hood. it's a 2003 Grand Am GT 6 cyl. Frown Can you tell me what it might be? I have to do this over and over before it finally STAYS on.

Re: Help Sign In

Here's a link to a process of elimination of "ALL CRANK NO START" which most applies. Catch it not starting, don't play with the gas pedal and see what isn't right by this link at this site as well.........

With little more I'd say check fuel pressure anyway both for pressure and that it hold. Both just key on engine off and again when it run finally too - all good info to know.

It should also hold pressure not just drop right of as in even when you just prime it by key to run but not starter pressure builds up and should stay there after key is off for some time,

Re: Help Sign In

Is the security light on or flashing when it starts and stalls?

Re: Help Sign In

Have you scanned the engine controller to see if there are trouble codes stored? If so, what are the code numbers?

One suggestion is to check the fuel pressure regulator to see if it is leaking and flooding the engine out.

Watch this video to see how to check it:

Re: Help Sign In

I don't have access to a car computer. I don't have a long crank time. It just starts right up and then dies as fast as it started. And it only seems to happen when it colder out. If the temp is in the 50;s it starts right up. Colder? It starts and then stops. I do hear a "pop tab" (meaning simular to opening a can of pop) sound when I turn my key to off.
