03 Mazda Protege5 Loss of Electrical Power Sign In

I have an 03 Protege5. This morning on the way into work, the ABS and Brake lights came on and stayed on and the airbag light flickered in and out. Additionally, the radio power kept coming in and out before finally giving up and the wiper motors were running really slow. Also, the engine, while never cutting out, was less responsive to hitting the pedal than usual. Finally, once I got to work and turned the car off, it wouldn't start back up.

I suspect alternator, but was curious if there are any other possible causes of this that I should investigate first?

Thanks for your help.

For a beginning, check or have checked, battery condition, all cable connections, alternator and clean connections there as well. Then if all set test with a known good and charged battery what the car can do charging wise, both voltage and amp output under load while installed,

I suspect my fly is down but until I look, I don't know. The same goes for your alternator. Don't ask us if it's bad, have it tested.

I didn't ask if my alternator was bad, I just asked if there was anything else I should suspect as well. I'm at work and won't have a chance to address the car until later in the day. Thought it might not hurt to throw a question out there to some helpful experts before I start making phone calls or making trips to the parts store.

Apologies if my question has offended or inconvenienced you.

First things first. Test the battery and then the charging system before you even consider looking elsewhere.

HT, I think your fly is down. Please zip up and save us the mental trauma.

You have a lot of certifications HT, but I bet you don't have the ASE in zippers yet. Hah! I aced that one ahead of you.

I'm not touching that with a 10 foot pole.
