03 Nissan Altima 2.5 automatic went to drive home from work, shift into Drive - not able to move gear shifter - notice that the trunk light is on - trunk not open, disconnect/reconnect the trunk connection - trunk is Definitely closed - light still displaying. Indicators on the outside functioning, but the inside panel does not show it. Tripometer etc. will not cycle through display. Manage to get home using screwdriver to unlock gear shifter. Changed the battery (Arizona is notorious for yearly/bi yearly new battery requirements) - didn't fix the problem... Took it into a dealer - they're having a problem figuring out what it is (?!?!?!?) said the panel cluster was blowing the fuse and after replacing the fuse, the panel continues to blow... What I want to know is... does this sound right? What else could it be? what could cause this? I've had no work done to the car (oil change 6 months ago, tires rotated) but no repair work at all. Inspection done 1 month ago and they hooked up to the internal computer... could something like that have done something to it? Anyone have any idea how much this may cost - ballpark (need to know if selling a kidney will be required) Thanks

Ask them to check into bulletin number EL02-019a..if they havent already. This addresses concerns you mention,I.E. no shift concern, open fuse #19,turn signal indicators on dash do not operate...etc... Has to do with the room lamp wiring harnesses damaged and touching ground in the area where either sun visor mounts to the roof. May or may not apply Just a thought Let us know the outcome Jim

Ended up they did have to replace the 8j000 controller. did mention the bulletin you suggested. Mentioned I had a moonroof put in a year ago. They said that wasn't the problem ( I'm guessing they wanted their $700 more than checking into what I suggested) :( car works now! Thanks for the info anyway

got it back... said there were some wires left over from a after market alarm system (car no longer has an alarm)... took it home monday... and this morning my sunroof would not open.... needless to say I am ticked off.... Nissan dealer says it's the sunroof now (sunroof company is where they take all nissans in PHX if you go into a dealer to have one added and it was done over a year ago)...sunroof company says they put a relay in and the sunroof operates off of the battery, dealer says this is not possible.... any more ideas anyone...? i don't want to replug in the sunroof if it's going to blow the BCM again...
