Any thoughts?

09 accord with 65K miles... 4CYL. AUTOMATIC 2DR

Car makes a vibrating/clatter nosie when accelerating from a stop in first and/or second gear at around 3K rpms... if i let off the gas for a sec and reaccelerate it stops and is fine. If I hold the acceleration steady and hold it in first or second gear for a few seconds at around 3K rpms the red oil light comes on, when i let off the gas it goes off and everythign is fine when i reaccelerate???

Seems to be corrected after a freash oil change then starts again after about a month or so???

What could be causing this????

ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

Are you checking the oil level between changes? If so what is the level at? Do you do this work yourself or take it to a shop? If a shop, is it a real repair shop or a quick lube type of place?

Took it to a shop... I checked the oil level and it was good multiple times between changes... a real shop. but not the dealer.

By the way I never let the red oil light stay on for more than 1 second i immediatley stop let off the gas and resumes to normal. Engines runs fine other than this.

FYI...

Checked oil again today, 2 quarts low!!! Changed oil and topped off and all is well. Spoke to HONDA shop tech... The clattering noise was the cars refusal to switch over to the larger lobe at 3K rpms. Precautionary measure taken by honda engineers. The oli sensor is at the top of the engine at this caused the oil light to flicker. Said the engine should be fine since the issue resolved its self immediatley when oil when added.

Apparently HONDAs do burn conventional oil, and also he mentioned non-honda oil filters dont help matters... Anyone know who makes them?

Thanks for the reply.

You might want to call the dealer again and ask them if your vehicle falls under the reflash campaign and if it was done.

Campaign #

11-049

August 26, 2011

Applies To:2008-11 Accord L4 with A/T - Check the iN VIN status for eligibility
2008-10 Accord L4 with M/T - Check the iN VIN status for eligibility
2010 CR-V - Check the iN VIN status for eligibility

Product Update: Software Update to Improve Fuel Injector and VTC Timing (Supersedes 11-049, dated August 4, 2011, to revise the information marked by the black bars and asterisks)

*REVISION SUMMARY^ The SOFTWARE INFORMATION section was updated, and the PGM-FI software program IDs and P/Ns were added.^ Under

REPAIR PROCEDURE, step 3 was added.^ An example of the customer letter was added.

*BACKGROUND

The fuel injector timing and VTC timing at cold start may create deposits on the oil control rings that could contribute to increased oil consumption.

All owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this product update. An example of the customer notification is included at the end of this service bulletin.

Do an iN VIN status inquiry to make sure the vehicle is shown as eligible. In addition, check for a punch mark above the fifth character of the engine compartment VIN.

A punch mark in that location means this product update has already been completed.

Some vehicles affected by this campaign may be in your new or used vehicle inventory. Repair these vehicles before they are sold.

Should a dealership sell an unrepaired vehicle that subsequently causes injury or damage because of the campaigned item, the dealership will be solely responsible to the damaged party, and will be required to defend and indemnify American Honda for any resulting claims.

To see if a vehicle in inventory is affected by this campaign, do a VIN status inquiry before selling it.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Update the PGM-FI software.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
