This is an 87 honda civic, rebuilt engine with about 106,000 miles yesterday when i started it and put my foot on the brake i heard what sounded like air coming out or static? this happens everytime i apply pressure to the brake, it also has to be pushed to the floor to stop and it takes a moment. When the engine is off thr brake pedal stifens up and does not do this.....from reading on here and other sites i was thinkin maybe it's the master cylinder or possibly the brakes need to be bled??? this car is falling apart, when i start the car i almost always have to apply the gas, and the engine blows white/gray smoke most of the time....possibly the starter and head gasket??? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated~ thanks

most of the time the signs of a leaking master cylinder is noticed while driving and coming to a stop at a traffic light, the pedal will slowly sink to the floor but can be pumped up again. due to the age of the vehicle i would gather you have a small rust pin hole in one of your brake lines. check your brake fluid level, the ground for any wet spots and jack the car up and look for any wet brake lines. also if the car is equipped with rear drum brakes which it probably is, check the rear drum brake cylinders for leaks. they are a common item to fail and are easy/cheap to replace. your second problem with the starting and blowing white smoke could be a headgasket. are you loosing antifreeze?? __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Head Gasket Check

Head Gasket Check: Cooling system pressure check, compression check, evidence on spark plugs for starters. Anti-freeze in oil or vs versa, that smoke out tailpipe and low coolant without evidence of a leak are strong clues towards a head gasket/head problem, T

The hissing sound you are hearing when brking is probably the booster leaking vacuum... In combination with the head gasket leaking you will probably be dumping some $$$$$$$ into a 21 year old Honda...... You might want to look at plan B
