92 ford explorer manuel trans Sign In

I removed the trans to replace the clutch. It would not go into 1st or 2nd gear after the clutch replace. I removed the sensor opposite side of the neutral safety switch prior to the removal(realized I did not need to after trans was down). If I take that sensor out it will go into 1st and 2nd fine. But as soon as I replace it, it binds the shifter and will not go into 1st and 2nd gear. I can feel a pin moving back and forth if someone shift while I have the tip of my finger in the hole.Is there a way to reset the pin? Please respond to this form my email is not working

Yikes. Keep your finger out of the side of the trans while people are trying to shift it. Good way to lose the tip!. If you put the sensor back in and try to shift into 1 or 2 with the engine not running will it go?

No it will not. I have tried to put the sensor in while it is in 1st gear 2nd gear and neutral. As soon as I shift first time back to normal. I should have said tip was over the hole not in it. Believe me I know not to put it in harms way.

This has an internal slave cylinder that requires disconnecting when removing trans. Have you tried bleeding the system yet? Also these systems are a bit tricky. I have had to remove the clutch master cylinder and bench bleed it before to get one to work for me. It will come out resevoir and all. What you have to do is hang it in a way that all of the air will rise to the top and the fluid will run out of the connection the goes into the slave cylinder. Once you are there, push the center of the connection that goes into the slave cylinder so that fluid runs out. I use a 1/4 inch drive extension. Do this until the fluid comes out clean. You may have to fill it up a few times.

Thanks for the replys. I did not disconnect the hydraulic line. I just moved the trans back and supported on jack stands and a jack. I was doing it by myself and did not want to lift that big thing by myself. All the other gears were working fine. So bleeding would not have been the problem. I gave it another go this evening. I removed the sensor again. Then I put the truck in 1 st gear. Then reinstalled the sensor. It seems to be working fine now. I am guessing the one who was helping me the first time did not have it in either gear when I put the sensor back in the first two times( not familar with a stick shift). Have my finger crossed that it is a long term fix. I would hate to pull the trans again.
