96 Honda Civic wheel bearing question

Bought a used 96 Honda Civic about 9 months ago. Had drivers side wheel bearing noise and shake. When I purchased the replacement bearing at O'Reilly's they asked if it had ABS or not. I didn't know and said I suppose it does-but never checked. The car does not have ABS. I put in the new bearing and it seemed fine for awhile. Now the bearing on this same wheel is going out again. Would the difference of ABS/not ABS be a cause of this problem recurring so quickly? This is a job I have experience with but have never had one go again so quickly! Thanks so much for your thoughts!

The ABS portion doesn't make a difference on the bearing's longevity. It could be a defective bearing or improper installation when it was pressed into the knuckle. A major factor is the pre-load on the bearing. The preload is set by the cv axle nut, so if the nut is over torqued or under torqued is can cause a bearing to fail prematurely. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

That's a pretty common occurrence these days with the discount Chinese bearing everybody is selling. Try an quality brand like Timkin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Even Timken's bearings are being manufactured in China. The bearings you want are the ones from Japan. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
