I just bought a 2001 Ford Escort and it will crank and run fine until it starts to warm up to the normal temp then it will sputter and die. It will crank again and go a few yards than die. I was told this could be the converter, it may be clogged or the throttle sensor. It also is getting only like 12-15 miles to the gallon and I read it should be getting like 25-30 mpg. UGH! I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Hook up a fuel pressure gauge and monitor it during the failure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Just curious. Why would you buy a car with problems like that and not know how to fix them? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

To answer your question...#1 I am a female and with the exception of basic maintenance, i.e oil changes, tune ups and changing a tire, my mechanic skills are less than stellar. #2 The car ran perfect up until a week ago
