I have a 1979 Chrysler Lebaron with a broken directional switch....I can get the steering wheel off but remove the metal plate that serves as the steering wheel locking mechanism. The directional switch mechanism is under this plate. How do i get this plate off to replace the switch mechanism? Does it require a special tool or method? Any help would be greatly appreciated..........

Yes - there's a tool that will hold the star wheel locking thing down - a snap ring I think and then that stuff is out of the way to fix whatever you find under there. I think I've seen a puller set for steering wheels that wasn't all that expensive and you really can't fake it without it. Might be rentable too - some places FREE with 100% deposits,
