Inactive 92 Lexus es300 Sign In

So I've bought a car from my boss and it's a 92 Lexus es300 and I've had everything replaced including the timing belt, alternator, starter, fuel pump, and battery. Only thing is missing is I'm in need of my engine main, fan no 1, and fuel pump relays for it to start. But it has sat in the drive way inactive for about 4 months now as I have not had money to get the relays till recently. I want to know should I be expecting any more trouble once I do get the relays? I Heard the battery might be dead and whatnot but I'm not really intelligent about how cars are repaired. So if there's any advice on what to look out for once I got the relays in I would really appreciate it.

You let the car sit for 4 months for a couple of $15 relays?

Are you sure that's even the problem?

Well aside from the fan relay the other ones are $100 and $200 at most auto parts stores here where I live and I know I could've taken care of this long ago but I did have other more vital things to pay for.

As far as what's wrong with it I'm not sure if that's the exact reason I've had a mechanic look at it so and he said that's what it was but everyone else keeps asking that same "are you sure?" and saying it sounds like that mechanic is just guessing.

All I know is that when I try to start it only the electrical equipment comes on and the motor doesn't turn over whatsoever.

It appears you need to do a little more homework on this stuff.
These prices are from rockauto.com

Don't understand this one. You had the timing belt and all that other stuff replaced and who ever did that couldn't get it running for you? I got this feeling that there is more wrong with this car than a couple of relays. Your boss sells it to you not running, so you have no clue what happened to it, unless your boss divulged that information. Cars like those don't sit around unless there is some major problem that the owner couldn't afford to fix or wasn't worth fixing.

I have to agree that it's pretty rare for a relay to be the only problem in a circuit and to have 2 circuits with defective relays on the same car at the same time is pretty much unheard off, unless of course if they have been submerged in water and in which there would be many more problems than relays.

Re: Inactive 92 Lexus es300 Sign In

Well it was running when he was showing it to me when I was first interested in it. By the time i went to buy it, He had told me that he had taken the relays from the car to put on his same Lexus.

But since it was an older car I had wanted to fix everything else first. Idk if I was wrong for that but I can't do anything about that now.

So if you're suggesting that it's more than the relays, then what should I look out for? And how would I know that the relays aren't the problem?

You never mentioned that the relays were missing.

Re: Inactive 92 Lexus es300 Sign In

This is sounding like some kind of nightmare. So you heard it run once however long ago and replaced all the stuff in the first post with a non running car, no diagnosis if it needed all that.

At least you were told it was missing parts for another (relays) and how much more might have been plucked from this thing being a donor car for apparently some time?

It's done now but I wouldn't pay a dime for a car that didn't run right at transaction time unless I wanted it for parts or it was free but without testing out stuff and knowing how far you will have to go first was a mistake.

Not there but sure seems like there's more to this than meets the eye. Four months is not all that much time IMO to instantly need all the items listed. Cars sit new or used at dealers that long all the time,
