i have a 93 grand caravan with a 3.3 liter and it keeps over heating, by pass hose was broke and was fixed, new thermastate , oil filter. how can i check to make fan is working? also tranny dose not seem to kick into gear any more can u help? thanks

When bypass hose broke how bad did you overheat? Did you repair that yourself?

Fan should be on when hot enough and you can see it spin or even hear it.

For now - try running heater - if good and warm that's helpful to know cooling system is full or close now and if temps creeps up again and again (don't allow overheating) it needs to be checked and known full of coolant then checked for headgasket problems if it still doesn't behave,

hose broke and i had it repaired at a shop. i can not see or hear the fan moving, the van runs sometimes without overheating, i herd about a rad. relay could that be my problem? how can i test the motor? water pump seems to be working any other advice? thanks

93 Caravan:

It broke bypass hose, overheats, doesn't shift. Are you still driving this?

Is it overheating to boil over, shifting yet? Is coolant full - full at radiator not just a recovery tank?

There is a relay and a sensor to engage an electric fan, any of those could fail.

Some of these transmissions will go into a limp mode and will reset if battery is disconnected for a minute (negative battery terminal removed and replaced) should reset that if not another failure.

I suggest you take this to a shop and verify coolant level, assess the overheating and any possible damage that it may have caused,
