I have a 2000 for escort and need to have the windshield replaced. I was considering attempting this myself but was warned that this is a repair better left to a shop. Is this true, and if not does anyone have any instructions on how to do so? Even my Chilton's car guide suggest not attempting this myself, but cost is an issue here.

What happened to the windshield? If you have comprehensive insurance coverage, your insurance will pay for a broken windshield.

I know, unfortunately I do not have that coverage and to add it requires an inspection.

Winshield is not the easiest DIY job without some tools and know how. Some junkyards install used glass by appointment (they get a glass tech to come to yard) or they do around me anyway. It's a challenge to install without breaking one on many cars. Getting them out unbroken is even harder but they do,
