Just got the call about my car and was told that there was a thorough check done for vacume leaks and none found. Also he said that he checked the throttle Body and it was gummed up and he had to clean it. He told me that he drove it afterwards and that it got the roughness out of it. Does that sound right? Remember I'm not a motor guy so I can only go by what I'm told by real car guys like my buddy and y'all. Thanks

He said that after cleaning it he drove it and the idle was smoothed out. Does this sound right? I can only go by what I learn from listening to advise from real car guys like y'all and my friend.

Guess I'll call around and see if there is any where around here that can do a smoke test on it. I really had my hopes up for good news today because he was saying all the things y'all told me before y'all told me yesterday. He said he had about 20 different ford cars in the last 6 months with the same symptoms and he found vacume leaks on all of them but couldnt find one on mine.

There are basically 2 things that cause lean codes in that truck and they are vacuum leaks 95% of the time and a MAF 5% of the time and you already replaced the MAF. Things like low fuel pressure or a temp sensor reading hot can do it but I've never seen an Expedition have either. Take the metal end off an automotive stethoscope and move the rubber end all around the plastic vacuum lines while the engine is running. You can narrow down and amplify the hiss that way.

Thanks I'll call around and see if I can locate some one close that has the ability to do the smoke test it may show something that he can not locate by whatever means he used. If not I may get the codes cleared to see if they come back and what they read when they do

If I remember right, the PCV pipe hose likes to collapse and leak or the grommet pops off behind the intake. Another thing that will set lean codes is if you have the wrong PCV valve in it. Better to get a motor craft PCV valve if you have some sort of aftermarket one in there. One important thing is to determine when the lean problem is occurring. Your mech should be able to monitor fuel trims to verify if the lean condition occurs at idle speed, occurs off idle, or both. Usually fuel trims due to a lean condition at idle are the result of vacuum leaks. If the trims show a lean condition compensation at higher rpms, you need to look at fuel pressure or MAF issues ( including unmetered air from ripped ducting or vent pipes unplugged from the ducting). For fuel pressure and MAF verification do WOT (wide open throttle) while driving and watch the O2 sensors. They both should go rich or around .9 volts. If they don't, the engine isn't getting enough fuel. Looking at freeze frame data would help to tell what load levels, engine temps, TPS %, etc the engine was at when the codes set. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Hey folks got the expedition back today and it seems to be riding better after getting the throttle body cleaned. When I got it home I let it run and sprayed Carb cleaner on all the vacume hoses... well pretty much got it on more than the hoses! but I heard no difference in the sound of the motor. Still haven't found anyone around here that does the smoke test

Hey me again. Was just diving and same light came back on. The exact term for the light is emmision control. The thing is this time it did not stay on it only blinked a few times and then went off. So far, as some of you already know, I have put a new mass air sensor on it, had the throttle body cleaned, had it checked for vacume leaks( they only sprayed the lines they did not have the smoke tester) and put fuel treatment in it, which I just did because I do it for all my vehicles every so often. I did find someone who can smoke test it if y'all think that the spray method could have missed a leak.

That's kind of what I was thinking but when I called the man told me if the light went back off there was nothing they could do with the tester that they have. He said that they were told that if the light did not stay on there was a 99 % chance the code would not come up on there tester. What worries me is that the manual says since the light blinked that it could do damage to the catalytic converter or the fuel system

Sorry man just got back from advance auto. They agreed to check it out for me but when they hooked up it would not pull up any codes. Just out of pure ignorance of motors I must ask... would a hard to find vacume leak cause symptoms that come and go? And how much better are the chances of finding a leak with the smoke test as apposed to just spraying the lines with carburator cleaner with the motor running

The smoke test is definitely the better way to test but don't jump to conclusions. We don't even know why that light flickered yet. Last time today. I think... I am just gonna drive it like I been doing and wait to see if the light comes back on but. When we was talking last week about the vacume leak I been wondering if a leak would cause the thing to idle rough every now and then and not all the time cause for the most part the keeling has smoothed out. Its just rough once a day or once every other day now

Just brought the expedition to a dealership for a diagnostic check because the light kept blinking but would not stay on constant. The test showed that number four cylinder was causing the misfire. They told me that it is either the plug or coil. What u think
