I just bought a real Junker. It's a 1986 4 cyl Blazer. It's idles real rough, accelerates very slow, lots of chugging and jerky acceleration.
My buddy said it reeks when he is driving behind me like it's running too rich (no clue how to thin it)
The catalytic converter I already know needs to be clamped as it's just kinda rattling around where it connects to the exhaust and there is a small exhaust leak in the right exhaust manifold too, I can hear it. If you try to accelerate too fast it will stall or the tires sound like they lock up for a split second causing them to screech. I'm thinking maybe timing is way off? I know the other stuff I mentioned contributes to this but I don’t think it is the main cause for as bad as this thing is running.

>>I just bought a real Junker<<
Sorry, but I may have to agree with you.Unsure You posted that it is a four cylinder, but mentioned an exhaust leak in the right exhaust manifold? It shouldn't have more than one exhaust manifold if it's a four cylinder. The rough running can be caused by MANY different reasons. Also, the 'rough running' will ruin a catalytic converter. From the symptoms, it sounds like the converter is probably already dead and probably plugged, which will cause a severe loss of power....>>accelerates very slow, lots of chugging and jerky acceleration.>>
You need to address the 'rough running' problem before you replace the converter (if it IS plugged) so that you don't ruin a new one. Please, double check the engine size, and if you can, give us the eight digit of the VIN number. Also, if it has a carburetor or is fuel injection (TBI). This is the year that GM was 'switching over' from carbs to FI.

Uh, if the 8th digit is R, my software is showing it as a 2.8 fuel injected V6?

I'm showing the "R" code as a 2.5 4 cyl.
