>>THE CAR WILL NOT KICK OVER AT ALL << Do you mean that the starter will not crank over the engine? Or, that it cranks over, but won't start?

Grammy; There are several possibilities; First, have the battery tested; Although the lights may work, it may not have enough cranking amperage to turn the starter. Check the battery connections. GM uses side post type terminals and they can get corroded, but look fine. There is a bolt that goes through the eyelet on the end of the cable where it connects to the battery. Remove the bolts from the cables and clean in there, too. If the battery and connections are okay, check to see if you are getting 12V to the 'exciter' wire on the starter solenoid during crank. It will be the smaller of the two wires connected to the solenoid. If the battery and cables are okay and you have voltage going to the solenoid during crank, most likely a faulty starter. Once you have done these tests, in order, report back with your findings.

Re: 1992 CHEVY LUMINA Sign In

Are you doing the work yourself or are you taking it to a shop? Judging by your name I'm not picturing you doing the actual diag.... If you are.....right on & more power to you & follow lorens suggestions...

If you are taking it to a shop....no disrespect to your tech... but from your post this is pretty straight forward & he should've be able to diag it fairly easily.

He should've already done the tests loren mentioned.

A few other things would be to pop off the serp belt to make sure the alt, p/s pump or a/c comp aren't locked up & to spin the motor over by hand to make sure it's free.
