Hey guys been a couple months hope all is well? Okay driving my truck this week.. Going down the highway at about 60 mph and shuts off I coast to a stop and try to crank would not it would turn over.. Mashed the gas a few times and it finally started.. Got going again and it shut off I got it cranked to get out of road and called a tow truck.. Got it to the shop and they drove it for 2 days no issues I know they drove it because of my miles and an empty tank of gas.. They told me they didnt want to start replacing parts.. I thought maybe a fuel module or the fuel pump? Mechanic said it could be a firingv issue but then again he would need it to do what it did with me.. Anyway I told him to put a new fuel filter on it and when I gopt it back I put a half of tank of gas in it and a bottle of heet.. Any ideas would be great because I know this will happen again probably when I am towing something HELP!!!! LOL... If you cant fix it then dont mess with it...

Sounds like your doing all the right things and getting the right advice. I would suspect fuel pump too but like they said, you need some proof and you can only get that if you reproduce the problem. Just be ready when it happens. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

That would tend to indicate a flooding situation.

That answer that then because I was pumping the heck out of that acelerator.. Trying to get it fired back up...Man I have no idea I do know I dont have all this extra money for towing.. 2 tows in 4 weeks raditor tank blew out also... Hammer side question I had a new battery put on about 4 months ago.. With all this stuff happening this week I had napa test my bat and alternator.. Battery was bad Alt was good.. Goty battery changed out any ideas on why the battery may of been bad being the alt was good???? If you cant fix it then dont mess with it...

While it might not be the easiest thing to do, what would really help, would be to narrow it down to either a fuel or spark problem.... Either one you would almost need someone else with you..... If you have a can of starting fluid with you, spray some down the intake. If it starts & dies on the starting fluid that would indicate a fuel problem...... For spark you would need a spark tester and a helper to crank it over, unless you could position the tester off the coil wire & have it grounded & in a spot where you could see it from the cab while you cranked it....... If you go that route be sure to test for spark while it's working so you know your set up will in fact show spark if it has it.

To all I think its a spark issue I have drove it all day today no cut off problems.. However I have noticed a stutter in the engine it happens when i let off the gas and get back into it.. And then maybe a little while I am cruising.. Not a mechanic here but I tell you this a tow door pins and them driving it cost me 300.00 and still havent found the cause.. Lost in N.C. If you cant fix it then dont mess with it...

Yea intermittents can be tough to track down. You really need it to be acting up to find the problem. Some folks just don't understand this. Like the guy who "did me a favor" and cleared all the codes 1st and then could only tell me it was a P0somethingorother and then gets upset cuz "I'm wasting his time" by making HIM drive it.. At least you know what's going on so that is way more than half the battle... Sounds like you have a good tech who doesn't want to throw parts at it, good for him...... Guessing can be such a slippery slope sometimes, you really can get way off track and waste a lot of time in certain cases..... I understand it tough for you when it acts up. You in the middle of traffic and need to get out. Once you out it starts..... That's the nature of the beast for intermittents. If he has some know good testers, you might start trying those. Modules for those are very easy to come by considering the failure rate of the dists.....Maybe start trying one tester at a time......

I don't think "pumping the heck" out of the accelerator will do you any good. TBI.

alienshadow, His answer may have been short but he certainly wasn't rude. What he was trying o tell you is that pumping the throttle on a fuel injected car does absolutely nothing and changes nothing.

No problem CH at all. Alien - pumping doesn't do anything in particular to FI vehicles. It can cease fuel flow if to the floor for starting like clearing out a flooded car/vehicle. If that really made any difference it would be a mystical issue about throttle position sensing or some strange things not common to me at least. Peace everyone! T

Still not being rude, just wondering if another set of seat belts were installed in that truck, unless it is an extended cab with rear seating. Not being rude mind you.
