1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.0 10,000 Car was running fine, shut it off and now will not crank or turn over.. had the starter checked and had battery replaced, car still won't start. When the key is turned everything electrical in the car powers up and when i turn to the key to crank it i can hear the starter click but engine does not move.. when the problem started i figured it was the starter and had my fiance' try to crank it while i tapped the starter and it eventually started, but i had the starter and sylanoid tested 3 times and they are fine. And now when we tap the starter nothing happens.. Thank you for all help you may give me.

You can't accurately bench test a starter, it has to be tested in the car. Those machines put zero load on it. Try to turn you engine over by hand & you'll see what I mean. If you rapped on your starter with a hammer an got it to crank, there is a 95% probability that you have a bad starter..... you can check your trigger wire (small wire going to the solenoid), get a test light and probe the wire. Have someone turn it to the start position. If it lights up bright then now its 98%. The other 2% would be excessive resistance in the starter circuit. You would have to do a voltage drop test on the whole circuit to be 100% certain......Make that 99.9%......Nothing in the automotive world is 100%

Ok, well i guess i will have to try to find a starter then, thank you. And i do have one more question, It couldn't have anything to do with the ignition or ignition coil could it?

Not the coil but there could be a problem with the ign switch......But if you consistantly get 12v to the trigger wire to the starter solenoid when turned to the start position, then everything in the ign sw circuit to the starter is good.
