1998 Olds Intrigue won't start Sign In

I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue. The car currently has 206,XXX miles on it, but the engine was rebuilt at 199,XXX and the transmissions replaced at 203,XXX miles.
The car was working wonderfully up until the other day. I went to start the car and it wouldn't even turn over. All the dash lights began to flicker and the car "dinged" as if the door was open. I took the key out, waited a moment and tried again. This time it started but when I got home it quit working and will not start at all now. All the electrical is malfunctioning now. The cd player continues to try to eject cds that are not in the player and when I turn the headlights on manual, all the electrical completely stops functioning and the headlights remain off even though they are in the on position. Could this be a computer problem? It is my only car and I need it to start for college and work! Any help would be appreciated!!

You have a low voltage issue. You need to start by getting the battery tested and once you have a good battery, check all the cable connects at both ends.

I had the battery tested and was told it was fine. I also checked the battery connections and the connection to the starter.

Then you have t check more connections. You're losing power somewhere.

I agree with HT on the low voltage, even if the battery "tested" fine I would be tempted to put in a known good loaner before moving on.

If you still have the same problem I would probably start looking at the main ground wires for bad connections & move on from there.

If you aren't familar with doing a voltage drop test on circuits. Just google voltage drop testing & you should find some good info on that...... With these kind of problems, just looking at it to see how it looks usually doesn't cut it....

I know next to nothing about cars, could it be something simplistic as a bad battery?

If connections and items are right you should still get at least a single click with a weak battery that can do anything,

Re: 1998 Olds Intrigue won't start Sign In

I just went out to try to start the car again, no click or anything, the only thing that happened is the car "dinged" when I put the key in with the door open. When I turned the key to the on position, it didn't even appear to try to start and all that was on were two dash lights: The seatbelt light and the service soon light. That was all.

Those light in "start" are just to let you know the bulbs work. You should be checking trigger wire to starter to see if power get there for more info on the fix,

Would any of the issues mentioned so far account for how sporadic the electrical is. As far as the cd player, headlights, etc. go.

YES........ you're losing power somewhere, assuming it's not the battery itself.
