Blowing cold air and overheating? You are low on coolant or gasses in cooling system so why are you even messing with a thermostat right now? Brace for a head gasket job, T

i was told by many others that it would be the thermostat. and i drained out all the coolant. so how would it be that problem? should i just fill it back up with coolant and try it? i bought dexcool and the dexcool 50/50.

Welcome to our world. Go spend a couple hundred dollars in swivel sockets, bend your arms up like Gumby and take it apart. That's what we have to do. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You said up top you were not good with cars. That was enough for me. You needed to diagnose why it was blowing cold air, presumably heater with probably a normal to then overheating engine. That's the problem. Gasses will not transfer heat like a warm/hot liquid. From cold you would be able to do a touch and feel or infrared thermometer to see where heat is, how much and if the thermostat did in fact open. Maybe it doesn't but it's not that common to me anyway. Stuck open and running too cold happens more often just in my experience. Whoever told you down some street corner that it must be the thermostat just plucked any old thought of a maybe. Now we know it has overheated for whatever reason and that will be the most likely problem to tend to. Getting the coolant know full is frequently a trick or difficult. Thermostats are a barrier in letting liquid simply go to the bottom and air out the top. Some such a pest you really need to put cooling system into a vacuum and fill by machine as not all will self purge out air dependably or quickly at least. Now just filling it back up to diagnose the problem is a problem. No harm meant but I think you need some help with this, T

Man you picked a good one to learn on. The black bar has to come off if you are taking about the bypass tube. The tube & all the hoses. From there it is possible to get the bolt if you twist just right & a gear wrench works good but not a cheap one ( the head is too big & won't fit) You may want to take the throttle body off for more room & I've seen 1st timers pull the manifold but you don't have to take either of these off...... Double check the T stat fit before using silicone. Some T stats are too tall & don't fit with the manifold on...... and all this will probably do nothing for your heating problem.....but that is for another thread, you need to get this one back together and then go back to square one.....
