I have a 2000 Cavalier that runs fine most of the time but every once in a while when I am around 55 miles per hour it seems to loose power.. Any ideas???

Check engine light ever come on?
Have the system scanned for any trouble codes that may be stored.Autozone will do this for free.

When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced?
Been awhile, have a new one installed.

Have the fuel pressure checked with a fuel pressure gauge.
May have a fuel pump failing.

Just a couple of thoughts

Or have the distributor and starter checked. Happened to me. They thought it was the distributor first, then realized it was the starter. Either one could've caused it.
