Mornin', I'm dealing with a fuel problem on a 2000 Chevy Blazer with a 4.3 (W) with approx 140,000. It all started with the the gas gauge stopping @ 1/2 a tank. Then it went to not wanting to start. I would listen for the pump wait a second and try turning her over. This would take a few times to do and felt like it caught by accident, run rough for a few seconds and then run fine. As time went by , it got worse . The other day I went through the same starting regamarooe and headed down the high way. As I steped on the gas, it just sat there ( red lined the RPMs ) but would not go over 50. I made it safely to the next exit. Thinking maybe the fuel filter was cloged. I went to have it changed . After it was changed , the truck won't start. I had it towed to a repair shop and we checked the pressure in the line. It reads 40 PSI and looses pressure . It sounds like air is hissing out of the injectors. I can't see them because they are in the manifold , but you can hear them. * truck will start for a second with starting fluid*. Do you think there is just not enough PSI from the pump and replace the pump or should I just go ahead and replace the spyder. Thanks in advance for any sugestions, Dan

These things want their fuel pressure the “spider” is a mechanical injector system; that takes pressure to open the valve(s).
A central fuel control valve is opened electronically and allows fuel under pressure to the poppet valves (injectors). This pressure is what opens the injectors; somewhat like an old diesel style injector worked.
45 psi is not enough pressure to open the injectors; the spec calls for something like 55-60 psi. Maybe why you got away with what you've been doing; is that you where lucky to get it to fire. Once running the charging system of the vehicle raised the system voltage enough to spin this weak pump fast enough to keep it running.
Until now; that is? LOL

Dan.

PS; Like the name; just a little longer then mine. But on my passport it is spelled Danny.

40 psi is not enough pressure to open the poppet valves; so yes if you're sure of the pressure readings and the pump is being supplied the proper voltages and ground; replace the pump.
