2002 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 Liter V6 125,674 Miles Hi my vehicle has been a major pain these last few weeks. About a few weeks back my vehicle would not start and would only make a clicking noise when the ignition was turned on. I was told it was either a bad battery or starter solenoid so I had them both tested at OReilly's and was told the starter so I bought a brand new starter and solenoid and installed it, still nothing but a clicking sound. Stumped I took it to Big O Tires yesterday to have them look at my car and they told me it was my battery so I had a new one put in by them and it seemed to fix the problem my car started every time I went to fire it up. That is until this morning when I went to start it I turned the ignition and there was no sound at all, my radio and dash lights work just fine. What could be the problem?? I highly doubt my ignition switch went bad in one day and it could be my alternator thats causing the problem or just a dead battery I have no idea. Does anyone have any legitimate answers?

Get the battery retested.....New ones do go bad, also make sure cables are very clean. Dirty cables could cause this problem. If all that is good then you want to get the charging system checked to make sure it's charging & also check to make sure there isn't a draw on the system, draining the battery while the car sits...

Okay thanks! I'm definitely going to take it back in to Big O tomorrow to have them fix the problem. From the information I gave you an alternator doesn't sound like the problem correct? Just ruling out some possibilities.

Without being able to be there you really can't tell.....It could really be any one of the things I mentioned. If you have a volt meter, you could do a quick test to see if it's charging....Just hook up the meter leads to the jump terminals on the engine (or battery terminals if you can get to them) and with the engine running, the voltage should be in the 14v range if it's charging. If it's in the 12v range while running, then that would be a problem...
