2002 windstar dash lights stay on Sign In

Hi all. 2002 Ford Windstar 3.8v6 135k. The brake light and open door light are always on. The brakes were a little soft when I got the car at 129k. I added a little fluid then and one more time since. Thats 6k miles adding a little fluid twice. A friend of mine has the 01 Windstar and his brake light stays on also. Is there any known problem with this model? The open door light is also always on. How do I figure that one out? The guy who I got the car from said its been like that for years (the check engine light is on for lean and egr codes and the abs light is also on--- I don't mind either of those lights it's the brake and open door ones that bug me)
Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

Brake fluid isn't something you go through and just top off. You have a leak and the brake light shows that you have a pressure imbalance. Most likely a rear wheel cylinder leaking. Get a look at them to verify this. Big problems down the road if you don't

Warning lights are put into a car for a reason. They are to warn you there is a problem and ignoring them is not the proper response. That's why they make them bright red.

The 2 bright red warning lights on the dash are the ones Im asking about (because I realize there is a problem). For the brakes I'll check the rear cylinders. What about the open door sensors? Is there a way to clean those? There doesn't seem to be any obstruction......

You have major driveability issues and warning lights on and you worried about the "door ajar" light? I guess you wait until you burn the valves with the lean mixture before you worry about the important stuff.

For your "door ajar" light................

The switches that control the lights for open doors are made right into the door latches and they have a history of sticking and causing problems like that.

Here is a technique that often works well and eliminates the problem at no cost.

Get a can of spray lube like WD40 or something like it and has a straw on the nozzel. Spray it generously up into the latch mechanism. Now open and close the door numerous times to work it in. Repeat this process several times. Since you don't really know which door is causing the problem, you should do all of them. It's usually caused by the most frequently used door but it's not guaranteed to be that one.
