My son has a 2004 Silverado 1/2 ton 5.3L with about 70k miles. When you turn the key, you get a clicking sound but the engine doesn't turn over. There doesn't seem to be a problem getting power, as all the electrical accessories work fine. The battery is no more than 2 years old and the connections are clean. Someone said they thought it could be the solenoid. If it is, how hard is that to replace, and is there any way to start the truck to get it to a mechanic? If it's not the solenoid, what else could it be?

You can't just assume your battery is good without charging and testing it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

bigwolf; The 'clicking' noise you hear is from 'low voltage'. A battery can be fully charged, illuminate the headlights, dash lamps, stereo, ect, but not have enough cranking amps to turn over an engine. Weak battery, regardless how 'new' it is, poor connections, ect. Very rare to have a faulty solenoid, which is mounted on the starter. Loren SW Washington

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out the battery first and go from there.
