Although the VSS is a possibility, it would have nothing to do with the tachometer. There are other possibilities also such as the speedometer itself, the BCM, the PCM, related wiring or other possible components. The VSS will usually set a code when it has no signal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Rendezvous are junk These things are always in my shop for electrical problems and service engine lights! The vehicle needs to be scanned while the problem is occurring that way the technician can see if the speed read the computer is dropping out at the same time the gauge drops out. If not then gauge or wiring is at fault. If so then the speed sensor may be faulty. I believe when these sensors go bad it also trips on the ABS light as well. I have found speed signal codes in all 3 computers. Engine, ABS and Traction control. The instrument cluster can be repaired as replacement is impossible unless done by the dealer. link deleted.............not allowed
