I have a 2005 focus, battery went dead, charged it and went dead again in two days. Replaced with new and it went dead in two days. What should I do next? How do I check the alternator? Alternator is hard to get at, can I check it with car running at the battery terminals?

Just use a digital voltmeter across the battery with the engine idling and no accessories turned on. You should see between 13.5 and 14.8v. Is this going dead while it's being used or after it has been parked for a while. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks for your reply. It's going dead while its being used, it starts with radio and air conditioning going off and a few minutes later the car dies.

Yes, that sounds like the charging system is not working, probably an alternator but be sure to check all the fuses before buying an alternator.
