Hi, My wife has experienced our well maintained 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, V6 GT, 100K miles , lose all power while driving a couple of times. Very dangerous! The battery is a year old. It will restart though and go for a while before it happens again. Please help!!!

All you can do is check all the obvious things like battery cables. It has to be dead at the time to be able to actually test anything. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks, But I thought the car is running on alternator power, not battery power, while running???

I had a 91 Park Ave that would run for a while (ten or fifteen minutes) and then would just die. If I waited for a few minutes, it would fire back up again and do the same cycle all over again. A mechanic diagnosed it as a faulty crankshaft position sensor. The car ran fine after I had that replaced. I'm not sure if that's what's ailing your Grand Prix, but hopefully that will give you a point to consider.

A defective crank sensor won't cause a car to lose battery voltage.
