2005 Hyundai Coupe Battery issues?

Hi everyone! I have a Hyundai Coupe 2005 1.6. It has 50k miles on the clock. I recently serviced my car and was told I needed a new battery. I purchased a new battery online and had it fitted at a garage. My old battery was dying a lot so I figured it was required. Now my new battery was working fine for a month or two. However my car was last week struggling to start. Now today, it completely wouldnt turn on. Not even the ignition 'click' sound was appearing. So i attempted to do a boost/jump start with my friends car. However after connecting the cables correctly, when I touched it on positive (from positive), it started giving off sparks. So much so that I aborted the jump start. However to my surprise the car turned on after this!! So what do you guys think, is it a battery issue? Or alternator? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Have that battery tested. I couldn't guess how it was shipped and what handling it got en-route which is a problem getting them locally. I liken this to shipping eggs or something. Sparks now while jumping may be battery is way too low or shorted or who knows? Have to charge and test it then move on after that much is ruled out, T

Ok, thanks for your reply. I'll get my local garage to test the battery. Hopefully it wont cost too much and they'll give some genuine advice!!

Re-read of top post, old battery was dying a lot? Seems you didn't even install this so have the shop check for a parasitic drain as well. Just to add, car batteries don't like going dead or trauma. Do tell the whole story to the shop, T
