2007 PT Cruiser Air Conditioning Issue Sign In

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Air Conditioning turns on and works fine. It blows cold air and doesn't make any weird noises. The trouble begins when my car is on, but is stopped for more than about 2 minutes. After approx 2-3 minutes, the AC stops working and keeps trying to start back up. During this time, the the car shakes a little, and the hand on my tachometer slightly jumps up and down.

The AC resumes working perfectly as soon as I start moving again. This only happens when I am stopped for about 2 minutes.

Thanks in advance!

it sounds like the a/c compressor is cycling on an off. low charge will cause that.. do you have gauges? are the fans working? the radiator fans... if not then this can cause the same trouble. not 100% sure what you mean by "stops working" but if you are talking about the ac compressor kicking on n off. then we are on the same page.

btw... do not just add refrigerant . check first to see if it's low.. on the low side of the system. it should be roughly 35 psi.. the high side should be around 200 psi. outside temp an a myriad of other thing will cause changes in these readings... but somewhere close to that. if the low side falls below 20 or 25 the compressor will kick off then on gain after the pressure rises. hope that helps..

If this is only happening when stopped, then low refrigerant is not likely. A cooling/condenser fan not working is much more likely. I would expect your engine temp is rising at stops also.

Thanks so much guys!

Yeah, by stops working, I mean air continues to come through but it's not cold at all.

I did notice a slight temperature increase from time to time. And by slight, I mean barely noticeable. But I'm so used to seeing the gauge hand be right below the halfway point, that when it covers the halfway notch on the gauge completely, it stands out.

I'll have to see if temp. increases when I am stopped.

Thanks again!

Just check to see if the electric fan is running when the A/C is on. The temp was just an extra symptom.
