2008 Ford Escape
V6/3.0
42000 miles

My check engine light came on. I took it to Auto Zone and they checked. The trouble code they got was P0420. From what I understand this is Catalyst code that can mean I have a problem with the O2 sensors . I have replaced one of the O2 sensors and the problem still persists. At idle the vehicle is making a popping noise in the engine compartment area. The noise almost sounds like it is coming from the air intake. I wanted to check and see if anyone had any advice before I replace the other O2 sensor?

Jason; P0420 is "Low Catalyst Efficiency". I wouldn't replace any more parts until you get the 'popping' noise diagnosed and repaired. From your description, it sounds like a misfire. An engine misfire will cause unburned fuel to get into the catalyst and will ruin it. It may be too late, but need to get this diagnosed, first. Just because you get an oxygen sensor code does not mean that the sensor is bad, just that it is seeing a problem. Now, with that said, this vehicle should still be under factory warranty.

I agree with Loren.

You likely have a bad catalytic converter now but you need to find what killed it and a constant misfire will do that. It's not an O/2 sensor problem.
