Help wanted please, recently purchased a 2008 TDI Passatt. I noticed a knocking noise which when the clutch was depressed seemed to stop. I was told the flywheel needed replacing and had this done. Since replacing the flywheel the clutch pedal seems to dissapear after doing 50-60 miles but returns when left undriven for an hour or so

Are you saying the clutch won't disengage unless it sits for a while?

What is the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder? Was it, the slave or both replaced when the new clutch was installed?

Why would someone go all to way to replacing a flywheel and not replace the clutch? That's crazy. The transmission was out of the car. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Makes no sense to me either. The flywheel contacts the clutch friction plate. If the flywheel is bad the clutch is bad. Besides, after you pay all that labor there is absolutely no reason to leave a used clutch in there that will just have to come back out again later.

I believe that it has that dual mass flywheel setup. Maybe it gave up. Still they should have replaced the clutch, release bearing, and pressure plate. How long ago was the flywheel replaced? Since they had that all apart, it still might be under warranty if it is something they messed up. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
