2008 impala parking brake

post icon 2008 impala parking brake Sign In

 Please help me figure out where the problem is.. 2008 chevy impala 3.5L 47,000 miles. parking brake does not work at all. what are the possibilities and where to start looking.. driveway is a hill so it is a must.

thedook; I'm assuming that you have rear disc brakes. When you apply the emergency brake, the rear calipers are 'supposed' to 'ratchet' to take up any possible adjustment. On some vehicles, I've been successful by applying the foot brake and pumping the emergency brake pedal. You may want to get the rear brakes inspected. The pads may be worn too far for the ratchet assembly to function. Could be a rusted cable or components?
