hi puttin 400 sbc togethor so put std crank 6inch rods pistons to suit all fine then installed cam noheads yet and turn by and its hitting somthing so is it wrong cam everthing seems to be all good till cam installed

Can you add a little more detail and try and remember we can’t see this thing we can only go by your description. Do you mean the crankshaft will rotate without the cam installed? Are you sure your block is a 400 cu” block or is it a 350 that you’re trying to stroke? Dan. Canadian "EH"

Rods are directional. Make sure that you don't have one, or more, installed wrong. If you don't have the heads on yet, can't imagine any other reason. Loren SW Washington

sometimes they run a smaller base circle cam in small blocks with aftermarket internals, very possible that a rod or more than one couls be hitting the cam. If not rods could be hitting the block near the oil pan rail.turn it over slowly by hand and see where it is hitting. Chris

got it sorted conrods just nippin cam lobe high lift cam and 6"'rods just had to grind the lip off around the bottom bolt erea of the rods

wrap some elect tape around every in out lobes connect timin chain and turn u be suprised how close things run
