Hi, have a 93 Chevy Cavalier coupe that after getting a new front pipe on(only thing that happened before this problem started) Started cutting out when coming to a stop. It starts bulking and bucking then dies, put in neutral or park and will restart instantly and run perfectly, put into gear{F or R} and it dies instantly, just like it was shut off. Get out, check under the hood and let it cool down some(no,it's not overheating at all) and hop in, start back up and drive home like it never happened. Put it up and found a ground off the transmission looked motley at the bolt it was mounted to so redid that and thought I had it as it didn't happen again for a week, but then on a longer trip all of the sudden it did it again on the way home. This car has been very well taken care of..regular oil changes etc..and it has never given problems before other than normal items being replaced with the exception of the the alternator years back. Checked it for codes and none recorded. I'm at a loss and would appreciate any help at all. Seems to be electrical in nature, went through and cleaned connections and checked everything I could think of but problem happened again, only on longer trips and without warning...drives like a new car besides that. Am very mechanical and could do my own diagnostic work if I had an idea where to look. again any help would be welcome as I am a single parent of a handicapped daughter and work is slow and I sure don't need this with her in the car. If this is a 3 Speed 125 transmission the symptoms are due to a TCC solenoid, had tons of these do the exact same thing, it is a simple repair that you can do your self and the only cost is the TCC solenoid, the side cover gasket and the Trans fluid, here is a list of steps to take and pictures to show a blow up of the repairs: TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH (TCC) SOLENOID & SWITCHES Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid & Switches Auxiliary Valve Body, Valve Body And Oil Pump Assembly REMOVE OR DISCONNECT - Valve body cover. Refer to "Valve Body Cover".
- Wiring harness from case electrical connector and leads from pressure switch.
- Torque converter clutch solenoid bolt to auxiliary valve body.
- 3rd clutch pressure switch.
- Second clutch switch, if applicable.
INSTALL OR CONNECT - Second clutch switch, if applicable. TIGHTEN
- Switch to 11 Nm (97 lbs. in.).
- 3rd clutch pressure switch. TIGHTEN
- Switch to 11 Nm (97 lbs. in.).
- Torque converter clutch solenoid bolt to auxiliary valve body. Install new O-ring.
- Wire harness to case and switches.
- Valve body cover with a new gasket.

No pics for me either?? Sometimes, flgmtech1 they can expire or are restricted by copyrights from the source. Most work out well at this site at least for a while. If they are there for you and not for others I'd like to know why?? T

Hi, am the poster... and it does sound like this is the problem, and yes should have stated it is the auto w/lock up torgue converter tranny. It almost seems it's stuck in a high gear when it does do this so the TCC is probably it. The pics didn't show for me either using 2 different browsers though and as I'm not familiar with transmissions is there another link to the things you were showing me? Really appreciate the help and hope to get it up on ramps to work on in the next couple days. Also is there a way to change the tranny fluid in this vehicle w/out dropping the pan? Had the fluid changes at 40K but that was a while ago(had almost 90k on it now) and would like to change it when I'm under there. And links to diagrams would be great! Thank you Jay Burt

Thanks so much guys, the picture you last put in is a great help and the torgue settings etc... from the original reply is great also. Have ordered the parts, can't get them in till next Tues., guess thats what happens when your car gets over 10 yrs. old. Have ordered the trans filter and pan gasket too as long as I doing this, car has has the trans fluid changed bit it was back at45K so will do it and a new side cover gasket when I'm changing the TCC Thanks again but wish the original links from the 1st reply worked as well
