Nissan sentra GLE 1997 automatic 4 cylinder 126,000 miles. For the last week and a half my car would start up fine, but when I stopped for a stop light or stop sign the engine would sometimes die. I'd turn the key and it would start up no problemo. Last night I was at a friends and when I went to leave, my car wouldn't start at all. I turned the key and nothing happens. All of the lights come on in the dash, I can turn on the radio, the headlights and everything. When the key is turned there is no noise, no cranking. Silent, like I didn't even turn the key. Any ideas? I think it might be the starter, but after doing more research I'm not sure. Thanks

The very first thing to check would be the battery and cable connections. Then, the charging system. Loren SW Washington

I went to check out my car again and it turned on with no problem. I turned it off and on a few times just to see if it was a lucky shot, but it continued to start. Now I'm totally baffeled. Please help. I don't want my baby to shut down on me when I really need her.

Nissan; I'd still recommend having the battery, charging/starting system, and connections tested. If battery voltage drops enough, the computer kind of 'runs home to mama' which can cause idle quality issues, such as dying. Loren SW Washington

Ok I tested the battery and it's good. I also checked the connections and they also appear good. So it just shut down on me again and I noticed this time that when I cranked the key the solenoid made a ticking/buzzing noise. Now I feel like I've narrowed it down to either the started or the solenoid. I'm still not completely sure, so is there a test I can preform on each to see if they're the problem? Thanks you solo much!!!
