97 s10 quit running. We changed the fuel regulator and there is gas coming out of the fuel filter. We tried to put gas into the butterfly valve but it won't turn over. We checked the spark plugs and they were firing. Any ideas?

you may need to check timing and for compression

if your getting fire and you poured gas into the intake then it may not have compression or your timing is off
otherwise it should have tried to start

To test spark, you want to use a spark tester to make sure you have a good coil . A weak coil will spark with the screwdriver test but won't fire a plug under compression......

Just a sidenote, the term "won't turn over" usually means the starter isn't turning the engine over. "Won't start" is a better term for a "cranks but won't start condition" or even the slang term "won't catch" isn't as misleading............
