Air in cooling system Sign In

1999 Olds Alero
3.4 Liter
212000 kms

I just drained and refilled the cooling system, after replacing the head gaskets etc. Car runs fine but it has air in the system, I put in 11 liters of Dexcool so far, very little heat, temp gage reads about half, only one heater hose is hot, the other cold. I don"t want to run it too long. It has a new 195 thermostat as well. There is no air coming out the bleeder screw when it runs. I ran it for about 15 minutes. Do you think the thermostat will open eventually, or is there some way to get water into the entire system?

We put the system under vacuum to get all the air out but you should be able to by driving it around the block until it's up to full operating temp and then shut it off and leave it off until completely cold. Remove the filler cap and top it off. Repeat the process until it doesn't take any more. Don't remove the cap until the engine has sit for at least 2 hours.

You should start another question for that.
