Hi, my car has been parked-up for 6-8weeks, went to start it yesterday and the battery is flat, which is fine, I know what to do with that :), however it won't move (the car). It's parked on a slight incline, and I've tried to give it a push, with no effect, it's not going anywhere. The hand brake is off and it's not in gear. Any help with what is the problem and repair required would be welcome and very appreciated. Alison Car; susuki swift 2003, 38 000 miles

Would be some help to know what this is but a dead battery after a time off and outdoors perhaps would take down a battery especially if older or dirty AND tires and brakes may have stuck some from some rust and tires might get a flat spot so hard to plain push manually, T

Hi Tom, thank you for taking the time to reply, if there is any other info you can help me with would be grateful, Car; susuki swift 2003, only 38 000 miles. Tyres are O.k. not sure about rust, however even with minimum pressure (2 adult females) you would think it would move even a little, it's not, it as if it's in gear or tyres are locked in some way, passer-by suggested ceased brakes (I think) said I would need a hammer ??

Can you just jump it, charge battery or safely pull it from where it is? It probably if just that amount of time snap out of it but might need a new battery as they don't like being "flat" at all or a long time, T

Hi Tom, thanks again, Yes sure I can just jump it, the battery is not the problem, I know that much, the car should at least move, it is not, it won't, it's as if the wheels are locked, is there a reason for this do you think? still smiling, Alison, got to run for the bus though...........

OK - If battery isn't the problem then I'm confused a bit. Is this able to run, crank or just refuses to move at all even if running? 6-8 weeks would be enough but not out of control. New cars sit on lots that long. When you get this note please re-explain just why this isn't moving and if engine is running will it even try by itself or what? T

Hello Tom, still no joy getting car to move, I jacked one of my tyres and as I kind of figured, it won't budge, i.e. without contact with the ground (jacked) the tyre will not go round and round, like it's meant to, (right?) took said tyre off to have a look behind but I haven't a clue what I'm actually looking for, do you think brakes could have something to do with it, it has also been the highest rainfall recorded for june, july around here, (sorry for the complete lack of knowledge) could wet, humid weather be a factor? The wheel won't turn, front passenger, it is as if it has been welded on; locked. Going to see if I can google a picture of the wheel/brake system, Again any help you can give.............Thank you, Alison

Quote "Record rain - June, July" #1 - Does this thing run yet? 6-8 weeks if it was fine before just parked still should break lose but may take some coaxing with the engine and trans back and forth if rain and humidity was enough to stick the brakes with rust. Was this vehicle in you sight thru the record rains? Did it possibly get flooded up and over wheels for a while at least to soak some brake parts or if really flooded it should show it inside too. It's been long enough just pushing and perhaps try a tow company to haul it to where this can be looked at. So far I can't see that it runs at all, T
