?? My guess is you'll need to remove the lock cylinder to see just what's damaged more - the replacable cylinder with key or the housing it's in. I don't think this year has an airbag and if it does you may want to send this problem to a lock shop. Might need the housing and be easier and cheaper to change the whole column with a good used one.

Ford products just plain have a couple decades of issues with ign lock cylinder and switches!

Re: Car wont turn off Sign In

92 is a funky year for Grand Marquis and Crown Vics. I just can't recall if the column is more like older Ford products or the first of the newer ones?

Does this have an airbag? I think 93 all had driver's side air bags - not certain though. I'd be VERY careful if it has an airbag with problems going on there right now!

If more like older full size Fords much of the column will shed cheapo plastic covers without removing the steering wheel and you might see what's wrong. The lock cylinder pushes on a rod to the ign switch further down towards the brake pedal. Rod may be all screwed up and I've never seen one just turn way too far like you described.

The Ford issues were both the ign switch could get hot and caused a couple fires out of zillions of cars and there was a recall. Others the key would come out while ign was not fully off and drain batteries or the "chimes" would keep ringing like the key was still inserted when it was removed.

Wonder if the bonehead who designed all those still has a jobCrazy?

You said the key broke off. Was this car messed with some attempt to steal it or anything? Is the wheel tight or does it wobble a bit? I've had some loosen up and just a bunch of little 5/16th (same as 8mm) bolts needed retightening fixed it all from a gorrilla using the wheel as a chin up bar or something??

To remove your lock cylinder, place switch in run position. There is a small hole in the lower steering column cover. Insert a small screwdriver/punch in the hole to release the locking pin and pull the cylinder out of column. May be just be the tab on the back of the cylinder. Click here.
